A few clutches have been released for the Ford Focus ST starting several months after the car was released but ACT hadn't shown much development for this platform, until now. We figured they had something a little different planned with how long it took to get a clutch out for this popular platform and it turns out we were right.
Here's what you need to know about ACT's new Ford Focus ST clutch kits.
There are 2 different kits available featuring different style clutch discs. One is a full face street performance disc and one is the 6 pad, segmented style disc. One of the major differences between these kits and others that you'll see on the market is the solid hub design. Traditionally, street clutches feature springs in the center hub to absorb vibration and harshness when engaging. However, the Focus ST ACT variant features no springs. ACT designed the kit to be able to be used with the factory dual mass flywheel which, in our best guess, is the reason for the solid hub. For anyone thinking about the negative effects of the solid hub, I don't know if I would worry about it too much with how well a dual mass flyhweel absorbs much of that vibration and harshness. It's very heavy and it's specifically designed to eliminate harshness during driving. With that said, ACT seems to have done their homework given the ability for use with the stock flywheel.
One last feature is the inclusion of the slave cylinder and throwout bearing. It's recommended with many kits that you replace the slave cylinder, especially on older vehicles, so with it included in this kit, it's not necessary to buy it separately. Make sure you purchase the 6 flywheel bolts with ANY Focus ST clutch kit as these are torque to yield bolts and need to be replaced each time they are removed.
